The Muscatine Study
If you participate in this study, we would like you to complete a survey about your health either on-line, over the phone or a mailed paper copy. Whether or not you have been diagnosed with any cardiovascular disease, collecting your information is very important. A significant part of this study is being able to compare childhood risk factor measurements in people with a cardiovascular disease history and people without a cardiovascular disease history. We will also ask for signed consent to review your hospital records for hospitalizations or diagnostic tests or procedures related to the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease. You will be compensated for your participation.
The Muscatine Study recently joined the International Childhood Cardiovascular Cohort (i3C) Consortium for the purpose of pooling data from childhood examinations and begin to investigate young- and middle-aged adult cardiovascular outcomes. The other i3C Consortium research locations include the Bogalusa Heart Study (Bogalusa, LA), the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study (Finland), the Childhood Determinants of Adult Health (CDAH) Study (Australia), the Minneapolis Childhood Cohort Studies (Minneapolis, MN), the Princeton Lipid Research Clinics Study (Cincinnati, OH), and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute National Growth and Health Study (NGHS) (Cincinnati, OH).
